Day 26 - January 26, 2011

Tiffany started her internship at Ideal today!

She is filling in for someone who was let go. The internship will last for 6 weeks and/or until the replacement is hired or the office is caught up. Either way it's going to look great on her resume!

Natalie went home early from school today. She slept for about 5 hours and then made some chicken soup. Even though she isn't feeling well, her sparkling personality is still intact...

...well, almost intact anyway. I probably shouldn't interrupt her while she's cooking.

Today was spouse's day which would have been difficult to celebrate in the classsroom since none of the students had spouses. We corrected the problem by having them temporarily get married. It was a very interesting event that developed unexpectedly into some important life lessons.  Many of the couples brought "children." Most of the children were dolls. One couple adopted a fellow classmate and another brought a raw egg with a face drawn on it. It didn't take them long to realize that their children changed their lifestyles. For example they had to struggle with what to do with their children while going through the lunch line and during recess. (Did you realize it's hard to balance a lunch tray or shoot a basketball one-handed?!) The young lady with the egg decided to leave her child in the classroom during recess so it wouldn't get broken. Of course it was egg-napped.

A ransom note showed up in the school office and was delivered by the school secretary to our classroom. The child was eventually recovered safe and sound, but I think they all learned something about accountability today. Some of the students asked to extend spouse's day through tomorrow and I heard at least a few of them decline saying they weren't ready for that kind of commitment. Smart kids! : )

At home I celebrated spouse's day by getting Jim a t-shirt. It reminded me of him because he's always so willing to help when someone needs something. : )

He gave me five dollars.

I'm going to use it for my coffee habit, unless the kids ask for money first which is most likely what will happen.

Scripture passage of the day:

Ephesians 5:21-25
Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ. Wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord,...Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her
