Day 21 - January 21, 2011

Today is a double special holiday. It is National Hugging Day...

Hopefully someone gave YOU a hug today. It is also Squirrel Appreciation Day. I have no pictures of squirrels but I do have a video taken last summer of a naughty chipmunk. (I'm told chipmunks are sometimes referred to as ground squirrels.) Since I'm sure the cat was appreciating the chipmunk/ground squirrel I think it qualifies...

A Note about the Special Days: Every day (except for one) in the year has some sort of weird holiday associated with it. Over the years I've had fun celebrating these weird holidays in the classroom and thought they might be fun to add to the blog too. They are actual holidays that were proposed and approved by someone somewhere. Crazy.

Today was ridiculously cold. We started at 15 degrees below zero...

add a wind chill and, well, you get the idea. But yes, we had school.
Wisconsonites are tough.

Kid news:
Richard called! He said they had roll-over training today (what to do if a vehicle rolls over). Tomorrow he starts an 8-day training activity and probably won't be able to communicate until it's over. Right now he's in the middle of the desert. I asked him if it was hot. He said it gets up to the 70s during the day but at night it "gets pretty cold." "Pretty cold" for him is 40 degrees. I 'spose he has a point but I think we'd all prefer a little of that right now. Richard says hi to everyone and sends his love.

Nick got his taxes done and is planning to spend his refund on a manual transmission for his car. Tomorrow he's going to a junk yard to look for parts. Question: How many Marines does it take to figure out how to flat-tow an MRAP? Answer: about twenty (Ask Nick for the details.) Nick also shared that Tanya has been officially initiated into her Christian sororoity! We are proud of you Tanya!!! The cutest part of the story was Nick saying that Tanya called him at about midnight. On the webcam he was able to see the dress she wore for the initiation. His exact words were..."Sure enough, it was a pretty dress! I'm glad I woke up!" What a guy.

Tiffany is spending the night visiting friends at Carroll College. They are planning to go tubing this weekend.

Natalie is working tonight.

We are all looking forward to the Packers/Bears game this weekend!

Scripture passage of the day:
Proverbs 8: 30-31
I was filled delight day after day,
rejoicing always in his presence,
rejoicing in his whole world
and delighting in mankind.
