Wedding Dress Shopping and Other Things

This weekend has been rather busy so far, and there is more to come! Friday was my appointment with my regular doctor to get cleared for the thyroid surgery. Everything went without a hitch and I got a green light. I also got a flu shot and as a result I've been feeling a little off from that and my PMDD which is kicking my rear end this time around. Too much fun stress from the holidays probably. I had to miss out on our monthly couples gathering because of a migraine I just couldn't shake.

Aside from that we have been very productive. Nick and Natalie both completed their college applications and plan to mail them Monday. (Nice photo bomb, Nick!)

I'm also still caring for our guest critters. I had been told they would be picked up on Friday but as of the time I'm writing this they are still in residence. They make an impressive tower-o-animals.

I have to laugh at Peanutbutter, the rabbit. She still does something she used to do when she lived with us. She likes to have a blanket in her cage but she tends to chew holes in it and every now and then she gets her head stuck in one. I'm sure that is very cozy for her but I worry about her strangling herself. Here is how I found her with her head through a hole on Friday morning...

It has also been really cold lately. In fact we haven't had a day above freezing since the blizzard weeks ago. The snow is all still around and a lot of it is still plastered on trees and houses still too. Nothing is melting except the impressive icicles building up on the impressive ice dams on a lot of the houses.

Aside from those random things, the bulk of our time has been spent on wedding planning. On Friday afternoon we chose the location for Nick and Tanya's rehearsal dinner (Sebastians) and Nick, Tanya and I also went to Perls to take some pictures and verify that everything was in order for their wedding reception since the place has changed hands. All was well and we took some pictures and measurements of the hall to help us prepare for the crafting day planned for Sunday. It is a very nice place and it is fun to think of the day coming closer!

Saturday was wedding dress shopping day. Tiffany, Natalie, Tanya, Phil's mom, Dorothy, and his sister, Laura, and I all went to David's Bridal in Appleton. I still wasn't feeling well but we had a great time and I wouldn't have missed it for the world. First we worked on choosing the bridesmaids dresses and Tiffany tried to decide what colors she wanted. Our favorite plan was to have each girl in a different fall color.

The first dress style we tried was a one shoulder-dress. Very cute!

We also tried a strapless with a sweet-heart neckline, also adorable...

...and Tiffany started narrowing down the color choices.

Next we tried a two shoulder strap dress. It was nice, but that one just didn't do it for us...

...our favorites were the one-strap and the strapless...

...until we saw this one and absolutely fell in love with it!

It is elegant, flattering to every body type, very flowy and made out of a super comfortable knit fabric like that found in yoga pants, in fact Tiffany started calling it the yoga dress. Our search was over...until we had a moment of panic when we realized that dress was not available in all of the colors we had worked so hard to put together.

Not to worry though, we were still able to keep three of the colors and have a great plan to disperse them among the couples as they stand up for the wedding. Our final color choices are called Clover (green), Truffle (brown) and Apple (red).

We will use the other colors for accents in the flowers and decorations.

Next it was Tiffany's turn to search for the perfect dress. We all got premium seats from which to choose dresses and watch as she tried them on. Well, I didn't sit much. I went crazy taking pictures!

Tiffany"s first "dress" as she emerged from the dressing room was just the teaser of her slip and a t-shirt. Our assistant was still gathering her dress choices. Silly girl.

The actual first dress was gorgeous and became our instant first favorite...

...until we saw the second...

...which we liked even better! Tiffany especially liked the train.

The third one she tried on was the absolute winner and it is the dress we ultimately decided to go with, but don't look for it to be posted here! It is going to be a surprise! :)

She did try on a few more. One was at the suggestion of the representative from Men's Wearhouse, Tony, who had been incredibly helpful with suggestions of what dresses would look best with which tuxes and other men's accessories.

The dress Tony liked had exquisit details...

... and was extremely elegant, but it just wasn't Tiffany's style (as you can see from her expression.)

The next dress she tried on was also very pretty, but it just could not compare with the one she had fallen in love with.

After trying on all of these, she put on her favorite one again and we were all absolutely convinced that it was the right choice. At that point our assistant, Christy, had a surprise for Tiffany. David's Bridal has a tradition that when the bride chooses her dress she makes a wish and rings a bell while everyone cheers. The theory is that the more cheering is done and the louder it is, the more likely her wish will come true. It's not that we really believe in those kinds of things, but it was a very moving moment and we made a fair amount of noise :).

We would sincerely like to thank Christy and Tony for a very enjoyable and successful shopping day!

Richard also had a good shopping day. While we were dress shopping he, Jim and Nick were also shopping for a vehicle to replace Richard's truck. They found a Crown Victoria near Appleton but sadly didn't take any pictures to share with you. I will have to have a talk with them about that!

Tomorrow is Tanya's wedding crafting day. I am really looking forward to that too and even though I probably won't stay up to watch the end, it looks like the Packers are going to beat the Vikings in the play-off game tonight. At half-time the score is 17 to 3.  It has been a fabulous weekend!
