Sorry for Absence

My apologies for my absence! I've been working through some wrinkles that life has thrown my way. By the grace of God I think I'm back on track now and will try to recap the best of what has happened since February 1. Watch for updates : D.

Day 32 - February 1, 2011

Snow!
There is a blizzard warning in effect today. Natalie didn't have school, but of course I did...(the Fond du Lac school district rarely closes.) They were saying only a few inches today but I don't know...

how much snow do YOU think we have at our house right now?

This is what it looked like on my way home today...

Question: What is the safest place to be if you have to be driving in a blizzard?

Answer: Behind this...

Thank you Mr. Snow Plow!!

In other news, Grandma and Grandpa are staying in a hotel in Madison for the duration of the blizzard. They are down there to be near Jerry. The word today is that he will have a catheterization done tomorrow.

Also, I am almost finished with my puzzle!...

Scripture passage of the day:
 Psalm 148:7-8, 13
Praise the LORD from the earth,...lightning and hail, snow and clouds, stormy winds that do his bidding,...Let them praise the name of the LORD, for his name alone is exalted; his splendor is above the earth and the heavens.

Day 31 - January 31, 2011

It's Nick's birthday! He's twenty-one today and what a wonderful young man he's grown to be...

Then...

and now! Wow!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY NICK! We love you!

In other news, the new bunnies are settling in.
Hope is showing a knack for facebook...

and Muy-Mala actually escaped from her pen
completely this morning.
Now we've enlisted the cat to help keep an eye on her...

For those who care I've made puzzle progress:

Other news:
Jerry was moved to a hospital in Madison today. The tests have shown that something is going on so they are going to do an angioplasty in the next day or so to see exactly what the problem is.

Scripture passage of the day:
Proverbs 23:24-25
The father of a righteous man has great joy;
he who has a wise son delights in him.
May your father and mother be glad;
may she who gave you birth rejoice!

Day 30 - January 30, 2011

Today was "Let's Celebrate" at WLA! Natalie's Traveling Choir did an excellent job (even though some of them didn't really care for the songs they sang.)

The pep band was pretty good too!...

We also saw Aunt Mel. She has this message for the boys:

After we'd been there for about an hour and a half we got a phone call from Jerry. He was having chest pains that wouldn't go away. We told him to call 9-1-1 and that we'd meet him at the hospital, and that's were we ended up spending the rest of the day.

The tests were not clear so they decided to keep him overnight. We're hoping to know more tomorrow.

Scripture passage of the day:
2 Corinthians 1:3-4
Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, The Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles.

Day 29 - January 29, 2011

First thing this morning Tiffany put an old dog sweater on Pesty. Pesty didn't like it which I don't understand, I mean come on, it's Packer colors!...

The little fashion show was just the start of what turned out to be an "all about pets" day. Natalie and I both decided we would get the animals we had on hold. We got Natalie's first...(because she was the most anxious.)

She was very happy...
That critter is unbelievably tiny...

Here it is with a quarter for scale...

Tiffany looked at a little hamster too, but she didn't get it even though it was also really cute.

Then we went to the other pet store to look at the rabbit. Things didn't go exactly like I had planned , because instead of the rabbit I had on hold we came home with...

that rabbit, and another one as well! The gray one hadn't been there yesterday, and they were both so mellow and handle-able (is that a word?) we couldn't decide. Of course the pet-store guy tried to be "helpful" by saying he would sell us the second one at half price. (I think he felt bad about the rat incident from yesterday.) Anyway, now instead of one classroom rabbit, I have two. Well, maybe only one. I don't think Tiffany is going to be able to let the gray one leave the house.

I'm sure you are all wondering what we came up with for names for the new members of the family. I will put you out of your suspense immediately.
The tiny hamster is named Fiyero (fee-air-o) after a character in the musical "Wicked."
Tiffany named the gray bunny Hope. :)
We couldn't decide on a name for the black one. Right now it is being called Muy-mala-yummy-stew. Muy mala is Spanish for "very bad". This is because she right away proved that she was willing to get herself in trouble. (She is so small her head and shoulders fit through the bars of the play yard and we had to improvise to keep her from escaping.) Yummy-stew is in deference to Nick who will probably just call her something like that anyway. Right now we're just calling her Mala.

While we were playing with the bunnies Jim heard water dripping and made the unpleasant discovery of water leaking through the window in the fire-place room. He went outside and found that we had some serious ice-dams built up. The only thing to do was to crawl up there and chip it off.

It didn't look like very much fun...

...but it seems to have worked. We're just thankful we were home. That would have been an awful mess to come home to if we'd been at work.

While we were out shopping I found and purchased these very elegant necklaces to wear for the Super Bowl. Aren't you jealous?

Yes, they're cheese wedges!

Then, in honor of National Puzzle Day, I dug out an old puzzle we had in the  basement. It pictures all kinds of chocolate. The title is "nobody knows the truffles I've seen". Can't wait to get at it!

Just as I was wrapping up this blog Richard came online and we were able to chat a little bit! He only had a few hours of break before having to go back but he was able to tell me about what they've been doing. They've just finished the biggest portion of their training which he said was a platoon and company level assault on some trenches. He said it went very well but there was also a sad incident. One of the bomb dogs was killed. It mistook a training bomb (a large firecracker) for one of it's training toys. The dog's handler will no longer be deploying with Richard's group. He'd just gone through a divorce and his brother had also just been killed in Afghanistan, now with the loss of his dog it's just too much. My heart goes out to him!

Scripture Passage of the Day:
Psalm 119:50
My comfort in my suffering is this:
Your promise preserves my life.

Day 28 - January 28, 2011

It's Friday! Only one more week to the Super Bowl and boy, can you tell it around here! Packer Fever is EVERYWHERE!

There were two special holidays to celebrate today; Fun at Work Day and National Kazoo Day - those weren't too hard for me to put together!

("Choose a job you love and you'll never have to work a day in your life." Confucius)

If you'd like to plan ahead there are two special holidays tomorrow also. They are National Puzzle Day and National Corn Chip Day - another combination with great potential!

Kid News:
Richard - should be in day 7 of his 8-day training activity. Perhaps we will hear from him before the weekend is over!
Nick - is celebrating his 21st birthday on Monday!
Tiffany - really, REALLY likes her new full-time job!
Natalie - (and I) went pet shopping today...

Here are some of the pets we saw...

A "lion head" rabbit. It looks cute but actually had a rather evil personality,...

...an adorable baby white rabbit, but we didn't like the red eyes,...

...and baby Dutch bunnies that were even more adorable. I actually put this one on hold until Saturday. I'm trying to decide if I want to replace Daniel or not. I'll sleep on it.

We also saw this cute baby rat...of course she fell in love with it. Actually we both did...

but when we told the pet store guy we wanted to take it, he told us it was already sold. The worst part was that we think it is going to be food for some other critter! Natalie and I are such marshmallows when it comes to animals that the whole incident was pretty upsetting, ...it's just the thought, you know?

Later at another pet store Natalie also fell in love with was this...

It's a teeny tiny little hamster. She put that one on hold until Saturday too. Now we both have decisions to make.

Funny things I saw today:
These were the cupcakes a first grader brought in for the 100th day of school, pretty cute!!

And I have no idea what these are supposed to be, but they made me laugh!...

Scripture Passage of the Day:
Job 8:21
He will yet fill your mouth with laughter
and your lips with shouts of joy.

Day 27 - January 27, 2011

Today's special holiday was Chocolate Cake Day. What is the only thing better than a chocolate cake on Chocolate Cake Day?...

Why, TWO chocolate cakes of course!

Natalie recovered from her illness yesterday and tonight went to see the musical "WICKED" with her friend Abby. Her dilema of the day involved her footwear. The big question...pink, or black?

Final decision...

Praise God if our blessings are so great that we have to ask "Which one?" and not
"Do I have any?"

Scripture passage of the day:
Matthew 6:28-30 "...See how the lilies of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field...will he not much more clothe you?"

new snow we got today!
